Employment LawOur clients face employment, labor and employment-related issues on a daily basis. Our employment law section provides support for our clients, whether it is simply to be available to answer a specific question or to defend the employer before local, state or federal agencies, or in state or federal court. The scope of our representation of clients covers a wide range of issues including, but not limited to, termination, discrimination and harassment, family leave and return-to-work issues, wage and hour issues, and general labor issues. We also have attorneys in our section who are well-versed in employee benefits litigation (ERISA), an expertise that is not found in many firms in the region. Because of the scope of our employment practice, we are involved with all stages of employment-related representation from drafting the employee handbook to counseling employers on the development and implementation of employment practices, including conducting harassment investigations. We are also called on to make presentations to employer groups on relevant employment issues.

The determination of the need for legal services and the choice of a lawyer are extremely important decisions and should not be based solely upon advertisements or self-proclaimed expertise. This disclosure is required by rule of the Supreme Court of Iowa. Memberships and offices in legal fraternities and legal societies, technical and professional licenses, and memberships in scientific, technical and professional associations and societies of law or field of practice does not mean that a lawyer is a specialist or expert in a field of law, nor does it mean that such lawyer is necessarily any more expert or competent than any other lawyer. All potential clients are urged to make their own independent investigation and evaluation of any lawyer being considered. This notice is required by rule of the Supreme Court of Iowa.
